Breast reduction

Ideally we recommend breast reduction (reduction mammaplasty) to women who do not intend to breast-feed or do not plan to have more children. The operation is more often performed for physical relief rather than simply cosmetic improvement.

The first consultation
At your initial consultation you will discuss your desired breast-size and shape with your surgeon since this will be the most important part of the preparation for the operation. You should also discuss the techniques, where the incisions should be and how the nipple and the areola should look like after surgery.
Since breast reduction is a most complex procedure, at the first consultation you need to discuss your medical history with your surgeon (if you have diabetes, venal vessels, etc).
Your surgeon should describe the procedure in detail, explaining its risks and limitations and making sure you understand the scarring that will result so you can make a clear decision.

Preparing for surgery
Your surgeon requires you to have a mammogram (breast x-ray) or breast-ultrasound before surgery for your own safety. Your surgeon or esthetical advisor will give you details what examinations you need to perform in advance.

The surgery
Breast reduction surgery is performed in a technically well-equipped hospital in all cases, where for your safety an intensive care center is available to prevent and treat even unlikely complications.
The surgery under general anesthesia usually takes one to two hours, but may take longer in some cases. After the surgery you will stay in a comfortable air-conditioned room with own bathroom. Your surgeon will require you to spend at least one night at the hospital which may be lengthened if needed.

After surgery
You will be wearing a special surgical bra for four to eight weeks. You should avoid lifting or pushing anything heavy for at least four weeks. Your surgeon will give you detailed instructions for what to be careful with after surgery.
