Before the surgery

In your initial consultation, you will discuss with your surgeon what fat deposits you want to have removed. Be frank in discussing your expectations with your surgeon, who will describe the procedure in detail and explaining its risks and limitations.
If the condition of your skin is not tight enough, it will remain loose after the surgery. Your surgeon may advice you to combine lipoplasty with a skin removing procedure (e.g, in case of abdomen or thighs liposuction) for a better result. You should know that after the surgery you will not lose significant amount of weight since less than 5 pounds (2.5 kg) of fat can be removed from your body with liposuction. Liposuction is not a weight loss or obesity treatment, but a reshaping procedure. The more fat removed the higher the surgical risk. Smoking must be avoided for about two months prior to surgery. Nicotine interferes with circulation and can result in loss of tissue.
You need to discuss your medical history with your surgeon because any circulatory problems such as deep vein thrombosis or have spider veins could increase the risk of surgery.

The surgery Liposuction Procedure

The time required to perform the operation may vary, depending on the size of the area or the amount of fat being removed, generally it takes from one to two hours. To help your skin better fit its new contours, right after the surgery you will be fitted with a snug elastic garment to wear over the treated area for the next four to six weeks. The compression garment helps your skin become tighter and your shape slimmer. Depending on the type of anesthesia used, you will be asked to spend some hours up to a night at the hospital.

After the surgery

The stitches are removed within a week following the surgery. The scars from liposuction are small (like mosquito bites) and strategically placed to be hidden from view and usually disappear in two weeks. Since the treated area will bruise, our surgeons will advice you the use of special cream that will the help bruising subside. You will have physical pain within the first week but it can be eased with medications prescribed by your surgeon, though you may still feel stiff and sore for a few days as if you bumped into something so you should stay at home for a couple of days.

Each cosmetic surgery procedure carries its own type of risk, your surgeon explain them during the consultation.
